Saudi Arabia has added to its football tournament hosting calendar by being awarded the 27th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
The designation of the hosting rights by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation comes as the 2024-25 edition of the national team tournament draws to a close in Kuwait. Oman meets Bahrain in the final tomorrow (Saturday).
Traditionally held on a biennial basis, Saudi Arabia staged the second edition of the Gulf Cup in 1972, along with further tournaments in 1988, 2002 and 2014.
The next edition will be held in the Kingdom in September 2026. The announcement comes after FIFA last month confirmed the award of the 2034 World Cup. Landing the tournament has coincided with a concerted investment in stadium development.
Along with the World Cup, Saudi Arabia will also host the 2027 Asian Cup following the award of the tournament by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in February 2023.
The Kingdom is also currently hosting this season’s Supercoppa Italiana as part of a long-term deal with Lega Serie A.
