People on the move: SEC, Major League Cricket and more

The Scottish Event Campus has appointed Dominic McKay as its new chief executive.

McKay (pictured right) joins the SEC from European Professional Club Rugby, where he currently serves as executive chairman. He has also served as chief executive of Scottish Premiership football club Celtic and chief operating officer and executive director of the Scottish Rugby Union.

The SEC consists of three main venues: the OVO Hydro, the SEC Centre and the SEC Armadillo. This year, the OVO Hydro will welcome the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Iron Maiden and Billie Eilish. The SEC will also host events during the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

US-based Major League Cricket has announced the appointment of Johnny Grave as its new chief executive.

Grave (pictured centre) has spent the past seven years working as chief executive of Cricket West Indies. He also served as chief executive for last year’s T20 World Cup, which the West Indies co-hosted with the US.

Grave previously worked as commercial director for the Professional Cricketers’ Association. In his new role, Grave will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of MLC’s operations, including league expansion, team development and strategic partnerships.

CTS Eventim, developer and operator of Arena Milano, has appointed Luca Martinazzoli as managing director of the new venue.

Martinazzoli (pictured left) will oversee operational management and business development for the arena, which will be a host venue during next year’s Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan.

Florentino Pérez has been re-elected as president of LaLiga club Real Madrid until 2029.

Pérez was the only candidate for the position. Pérez first served as president of Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006 and he has currently held the position since 2009.

Italo Zanzi has been appointed executive chairman of Hellas Verona after Presidio Investors, an Austin-based private equity firm, completed its takeover of the Serie A club.

Zanzi formerly served as chief executive of AS Roma, managing director of Fox Sports Asia, and vice-president of Major League Baseball. Maurizio Setti will also stay with the club as a senior advisor of football operations.

English Premier League club Southampton has announced that Henrik Kraft has stepped down as chairman and will be replaced by Dragan Šolak, majority shareholder of the team’s ownership group.

Kraft will remain a shareholder and on the board of Sport Republic, which purchased a majority stake in Southampton in 2022.

League One club Birmingham City has announced that Garry Cook has stepped down from his role as member of the board and chief executive.

Cook’s decision has been made for personal reasons. He will remain as a member of the club’s advisory committee.

Jeremy Dale will assume the role of interim chief executive at Birmingham. He most recently served as vice-chair of the Birmingham City Foundation.

Major League Baseball has announced that Ed Weber has been promoted to serve as its chief financial officer.

Weber previously served as the league’s executive vice-president and deputy chief financial officer. He will oversee all aspects of MLB’s financial reporting, budgeting, treasury and tax functions, insurance and risk management, and issues related to club finance and economics.

Weber succeeds Bob Starkey as MLB’s chief financial officer. Starkey will remain with the league as a senior advisor to commissioner Rob Manfred.
