Spanish football club CF Intercity has entered into a irrevocable purchase option for a package of land to house its ambitious Legends-backed plans for a sports and entertainment complex anchored by a 20,000-seat stadium.
The 100,000 square metres of land in Alicante formerly housed a ceramics factory, with Intercity now holding purchase rights for a 12-month period commencing yesterday (Thursday). The deal has been agreed by club subsidiary Intercity Park.
Alicante Park is intended to become a hub for sporting and entertainment events, becoming an important economic driver for Alicante and the Valencian Community. President of CF Intercity, Salvador Martí, said that the land is “strategically located, close to all motorway connections, five minutes from the centre of Alicante and 10 minutes from the airport”.
He added: “This location will allow us to invest in a first-class stadium and sports facilities, for the construction and development of a multi-purpose complex that will provide the city of Alicante with a new offer for leisure and sports.”
Intercity noted the purchase option is subject to the relevant administrative and technical permits from local authorities. The land is current classified as rural meaning that, in principle, no construction work can be carried out on it.
Intercity, which currently competes in the third-tier Primera Federación and is Spain’s first publicly listed football club, last month engaged premium experiences company Legends on the project. Legends holds a preferential right for the development and management of the site.
Intercity said Legends is “making progress” on the development of the business plan for Alicante Park, adding that plans for the location of the complex and its business plan will be presented in the coming weeks.
Intercity currently plays its home matches at the 2,000-capacity Estadio Antonio Solana.
