People on the move: ICC, Arsenal and more

The International Cricket Council has announced that Geoff Allardice will be stepping down as chief executive of the governing body.

Allardice (pictured left) joined the ICC in 2012 as general manager of cricket, having previously held the role of cricket operations manager at Cricket Australia. He was named chief executive of the ICC in November 2021, having previously served as acting chief executive for eight months.

Allardice said he will step down to pursue new challenges. His announcement comes after Jay Shah was recently elected unopposed as the new independent chair of the ICC.

Sports and live entertainment company AEG has outlined a realignment of its international business divisions, with promotions for Adam Wilkes and Alex Hill as the firm seeks to better serve its “ambitious strategic growth initiatives around the globe”.

Samuel Lloyd has left his position as commercial director of the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte and will dedicate himself exclusively to the Urbia Parques venue management company.

Urbia Parques is set to be announced this week as the operator of a new sports complex at the Estádio Serra Dourada in Goiás. Lloyd (pictured centre) has spent six years at Urbia Parques as its commercial director and nine years as commercial director of the Mineirão, but he will no longer hold the latter position.

Italian Serie A club Inter Milan has announced the departure of its corporate chief executive, Alessandro Antonello.

Antonello joined Inter in 2015 as chief financial officer, expanding his responsibilities to chief operations officer the following season before being appointed chief executive in 2017.

Following Antonello’s departure, Inter president Giuseppe Marotta will take on the role of sole chief executive at the club. Antonello has been strongly linked with a move to Inter’s Serie A rival AS Roma in recent weeks.

Chus Bueno has stepped down from his role as managing director of Legends Iberia.

Bueno has spent two and a half years at Legends, having previously worked at the NBA for 12 years as the league’s vice-president in Europe. Prior to joining the NBA, Bueno was executive director and secretary general of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).

Mike Bohndiek has been appointed to the newly created role of managing director at sports technology company Cortex.

Bohndiek (pictured right) will join Cortex from Premier League club Arsenal, where he serves as technology director and has led a club-wide digital transformation programme. He will take up his new role on June 1.

The Houston Texans NFL team has named Mike Tomon as its new president.

Tomon will oversee the direction and management of all business operations, including marketing, communications, broadcasting, ticket sales and services, event services, and corporate sponsorship. He joins from Legends, where he has worked since 2014, most recently as co-president and chief operating officer.

During his time at Legends, the company signed partnerships with the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, FIFA and the Rugby World Cup. He was also involved in commercial engagements at NFL venues such as SoFi Stadium, Allegiant Stadium and Highmark Stadium.

Prior to joining Legends, Tomon served as senior vice-president of global partnerships at AEG. He has also held senior roles with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Bobcats and Phoenix Suns.

Joe Schiavi has started a new position as vice-president of ticket sales and service at Ilitch Sports + Entertainment.

The role will cover the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings and Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers. Schiavi will take on wider responsibility after serving as vice-president of ticket sales and service for the Tigers since November 2019.

Schiavi has previously worked at the Miami Marlins, Detroit Pistons and Houston Astros.
