Brazilian construction company Construcap has been awarded a contract to manage the Serra Dourada sports and entertainment district in the city of Goiânia.

The R$10m (£1.39m/€1.67m/$1.73m) contract will see Construcap oversee the complex for the next 35 years.

The district is anchored by Estádio Serra Dourada, the 38,000-capacity stadium which primarily serves as the home of football club Goiás. Construcap was the only company to submit a bid by last Tuesday’s deadline.

The contract foresees a minimum mandatory investment of R$215m, in addition to further optional investments. The contract will seek to restore the “grandeur” of the complex and transform it into a modern, multi-functional and economically dynamic space.

It is hoped that the renovated complex will host sport, leisure events and business fairs. Ronaldo Caiado, Governor of Goiás, said that Construcap will transform the complex into an “emblematic” space.

As well as the stadium, the complex includes the Goiâna Arena, a sports park, and parking lots.

Construcap will take over management of the complex in the second half of 2025, which marks Estádio Serra Dourada’s 50th anniversary.

The stadium had fallen into a state of disrepair but since 2018, the Government of Goiás has invested R$3.4m to rebuild its bathrooms, upgrade the stands and seating areas, and bring it up to the necessary fire safety standards. As a result, the capacity of the stadium has increased from 33,000 to 38,000.

Construcap is also part of the consortium that manages the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte.
