Queensland Country Bank has renewed its sponsorship of North Queensland Stadium, home of National Rugby League (NRL) team the North Queensland Cowboys.
The new five-year deal will see the Townsville venue retain its official name of Queensland Country Bank Stadium. The company has sponsored the 25,000-seat stadium since it opened in 2020.
As well as serving as the home of the Cowboys, Queensland Country Bank Stadium will be a host venue during the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. The stadium is set to host four pool matches during the tournament.
The venue has also been proposed as a host stadium for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
Tim Mander, Queensland’s Minister for Sport and Racing, and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: “There’s no doubt that this is one of the best regional venues in Australia. North Queensland has been through a tough time, but the extension of the naming rights is not only a testament to the success of the venue but a great signal of confidence in the region.
“Queensland Country Bank Stadium has been instrumental in boosting Townsville’s economy and tourism, and the incredible response to the P!nk concerts last year is a prime example. From the Cowboys to State of Origin, the Matildas, international football, rugby union, and some of the biggest names in music, this venue continues to deliver world-class experiences.”
Aaron Newman, chief executive of Queensland Country Bank, added: “Our partnership with Stadiums Queensland has exceeded all expectations, and we’ve been thrilled that with the support of the state government, Queensland Country Bank Stadium has been highly successful in attracting major headline events which have made a significant social and economic contribution to the region.
“There is no doubt that Queensland Country Bank Stadium has generated significant exposure for our brand that has contributed to our accelerated growth as a bank of choice for Queenslanders, but what we’re most proud of is the opportunities the stadium has created for regional Queensland.”
Queensland Country Bank Stadium was built at a cost of A$290m (£145m/€175m/$184m).
