Campeonato Brasileiro Série A football club Palmeiras has debuted a new standing space at Allianz Parque, taking the total match-day capacity of the stadium to over 42,000.
The area, dubbed Geral Norte (North General), is located in the Gol Norte stand and opened for the first time during Palmeiras’ 0-0 draw against Botafogo on Sunday.
The standing space offers tickets at lower prices than seated areas of Allianz Parque. It features space for around 750 fans.
The Botafogo match served as a ‘test event’ for the standing space, which was occupied by club members who are subscribed to the Plano Verde plan. Fans were able to redeem their match tickets for free.
Máquina do Esporte notes that the official match-day capacity of Allianz Parque has never been specified as the stadium is unable to make every seat available. With the new standing space now in operation, Palmeiras will be hopeful of surpassing its record attendance of 41,457, which was set against Corinthians back in 2023. Sunday’s attendance was 30,347.
Ahead of Sunday’s match, Palmeiras president Leila Pereira said: “The creation of the Geral Norte sector has been under discussion for a long time and, fortunately, our management was able to make it happen, thanks to the agreement we reached last year with WTorre. With this new space, even more fans will be able to watch Palmeiras games at Allianz Parque and support our players in their quest for victories and titles.”
In November, a concert from Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos at Allianz Parque led to Palmeiras trialling an innovative concept to allow fans to attend a match against Botafogo.
With the stage already in place for the concert, the Gol Norte stand operated at a reduced capacity for the match. However, Palmeiras elected to erect a big screen on the back of the stage to allow fans to watch the match. The experience was provided free for supporters.
