Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) has unveiled updated plans and renderings for the second phase of its renovation project at Spectrum Center, home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
Construction on the ‘Re!magine Spectrum Center’ project recommenced earlier this month following the conclusion of the 2024-25 NBA season. The two-phase project commenced in May 2024 and is due to be completed for the start of next season as the arena celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The second phase of the plans will include a new North District and South District, which were originally created to pay homage to the North and South Charlotte areas that surround Spectrum Center.
The new-look North District will focus on “modern sophistication” and will include a centralised bar, which will be title-sponsored by tequila brand Lunazul. The South District will feature a “southern hospitality” theme, and both areas will be open to the Belk Concourse.
During the renovations, the arena’s Founders Level will be completely reconfigured to meet demand for Founders Suites, which are the areas closest to the courts and concert stages. The project will also see 1,400 new seats added to Spectrum Center’s lower bowl for all NBA games and concerts.
Mike Behan, HSE’s chief business and revenue officer, said: “We’re proud that the completion of the phase two renovations will provide a new look and feel, but more importantly these renovations will impact every fan that enters our building. We cannot wait to reopen our doors this fall to showcase Spectrum Center and celebrate its 20th anniversary.”
The first phase of the project was completed last summer and included a transformed Novant Health Suite Level, adding new hospitality products such as the First Horizon Theater Box, Mini Suites and a Super Suite.
HSE also reimagined three new clubs on the Event Level: Bank of America Hardwood Club, Courtside Club and Inner Circle Club. The Uptown Concourse was also revamped entirely with changes to its concourse, food and beverage options, bar area and the Dr Pepper Pavilion.
The Re!magine Spectrum Center project is a collaboration between the City of Charlotte and Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, as well as architect Perkins&Will, construction companies Turner and D.A. Everett, consultant CAA Icon, Innovative Partnerships Groups, and concessions partner Levy.
