The Football Association of Wales is the third oldest association in the world, having come into existence in 1876. The association has governed football in Wales continually since that date.

The FAW is a critical stakeholder in domestic and international football, working to benefit its members, as well as use the power of football to drive positive social change.

The Role

The Chief Executive leads the Senior Management team and reports to the President (or Deputy President) and Board of Directors. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the FAW staff and other key stakeholders to develop and oversee the implementation of the 2021/2026 Strategic Plan for Welsh football.

The Chief Executive is responsible for creating a culture of high-performance within the organisation through inspirational leadership, maintaining a cohesive team approach with a focus on people development and accountability. They will ensure that revenue streams and commercial opportunities are maximised and enhance governance and stakeholder management.

They will successfully lead the organisation, ensuring it remains on the front foot in promoting the interests of all its members and stakeholders. The CEO must have a thorough understanding of the issues that football faces, whilst working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the FAW’s objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the 2021/2026 strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership to the organisation, translating the organisational strategy into meaningful and measurable action.
  • Ensure the FAW embodies a genuine commitment to, understanding of, and fluency in equality, diversity & inclusion.
  • Grow and maintain a strong and trusted working relationship with member clubs and shareholders.
  • Effectively engage with key industry stakeholders, including football governing bodies, officials, grassroots football, fans, the media, government, and other sports governing bodies.
  • To successfully lead a process of change management, whilst overseeing profit and loss, governance, and policy.
  • Develop an effective executive team that evolves working practices within the FAW and sets the bar for organisational performance and cultural transformation.
