About the role

We are excited to welcome a Legal Counsel to M&OP’s newly created legal function. This is a unique opportunity for a practical and commercially minded legal professional to provide support to a wide variety of stakeholders.

The role of Legal Counsel will have responsibilities across a broad range of commercial and government activities, working with a wide variety of stakeholders to help provide practical, constructive, timely legal advice and support. This role reports to the Head of Legal, bringing professional skills and motivation, and passion for the sports and entertainment industry to assist the business in meeting its objectives. This role will assist in legal negotiations and will work closely with the Head of Legal in ensuring that all M&OP legal agreements are fit for purpose and adequately cover all legal risk.

Melbourne & Olympic Parks precinct is host to six premier venues, including Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena, AAMI Park, Kia Arena, and CENTREPIECE. The precinct also includes the professional sporting and administrative facilities, as well as recreational spaces such as the National Tennis Centre, Outdoor and Indoor Tennis Courts, Olympic Park Oval, and more.

Here are some of the things you’ll have the opportunity to be involved in:

Legal Support and Advice

  • Provide operational legal advice and support to department and business unit leaders, assisting with negotiations where required.
  • Assist in the management of relationships with legal panel service providers, ensuring positive, ongoing engagement and support is achieved.
  • Provide support, training and mentoring to staff to improve individual and organisational understanding of the M&OP’s obligations and legislative environment.

Legal Documentation, Templates and Precedents

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of MOPT’s legal template agreements.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of a contract negotiation and departure procedure.
  • Ensure agreements are up to date and accurate, and departures are managed in alignment with precedent, Trust appetite and the Trust’s obligations and purpose under the Act.

This role is equivalent of PQE 1-4 years (with salary dependent on experience).
