Job Purpose:

Euroleague Basketball is seeking a six-month maternity leave cover for the Senior Manager, Arena & Security (SMAS), starting in September. The SMAS has responsibility for managing pan European partnerships with clubs, arena owners and managers, national and local authorities, police; all of these with a view to ensuring that every single league and club activity is held in a safe and secure environment for all participants.

Role Summary:

The post holder will contribute to the achievement of the performance targets, aims and objectives of the company through the following:

  • Drive the strategy development for arena operations and security within Euroleague Basketball and its clubs;
  • Monitor the game day arena and security operations for all EuroLeague, EuroCup, U18 Tournament games;
  • Manage and deliver the EuroLeague Final Four security plan;
  • Establish relationships with relevant arena operations and security stakeholders outside Euroleague Basketball;
  • Report arena operations and security activity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To collect, analyse and give feedback for security plans and post-game security reports from EuroLeague and EuroCup clubs;
  • To ensure that EuroLeague and EuroCup clubs organise safe, secure and service oriented games in coordination with the Business Operations department;
  • To maintain an up to date database of all arena operations and security directors and managers in Euroleague Basketball clubs, frequently communicating with all of them;
  • To maintain an up to date database of all arena operators where a Euroleague Basketball club plays;
  • To maintain an up to date database of police contacts in each city where a Euroleague Basketball club is based, meeting annually with those who police high risk games;
  • To identify high risk games, attending these to verify that the pre-game, in-game and post-game security plan is being executed correctly;
  • To manage a digital platform centralising all arena operations and security reports;
  • To offer strategic support to clubs who suffer from fan violence in their arenas;
  • To monitor the social media accounts of ultras;
  • To maintain and regularly share best practice documentation including technological solutions with clubs;
  • To organise an annual Euroleague Basketball Arena Operations and Security Meeting with club representatives and industry experts in attendance;
  • To manage Euroleague Basketball events security;
  • To manage the tender process for assigning the EuroLeague Final Four security contract;
  • To inspect all EuroLeague Final Four venues including hotels;
  • To validate the EuroLeague Final Four arena ticketing, accreditation and evacuation plans;
  • To propose annual arena operations and security improvements to the EuroLeague and EuroCup Bylaws, ensuring that the EuroLeague and EuroCup club licensing systems include appropriate arena operations and security minimum standards;
  • To liaise with arena, stadia, safety & security personnel at elite competition organisers across Europe and the globe;
  • To liaise with European governmental and non-governmental institutions for security matters;
  • To prepare an annual report summarising all Euroleague Basketball and clubs’ security activity;
  • To coordinate the Euroleague Basketball office security;
  • To coordinate Euroleague Basketball staff security for all work performed outside the office;
  • To assist the Basketball Operations area in other tasks as and when required.

Person Specification:

The personal profile is a picture of the skills, knowledge and experience needed to carry out the job.

  • Knowledge and successful experience of arena operations and security in professional sport competitions, preferably basketball;
  • Experience of working in collaboration with police;
  • Knowledge of the latest technological trends being applied in events security;
  • Comfortable operating a variety of software using personal computers, including but not limited to Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and multiple Web Browsers;
  • Proficient level knowledge of the English language;
  • Advanced level knowledge of additional European languages would be a plus;
  • Effective administrative skills;
  • Able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people on a personal basis, written and verbal;
  • Able to bring a positive attitude;
  • Able to stay calm throughout working in a high-pressure environment and maintain resistance to stress;
  • Able to successfully navigate between business / basketball / security environments and needs;
  • Shows integrity and is fair, equitable and ethical in approach. Protects confidential information, adheres to policies and demonstrates loyalty to basketball and a high-performance organisation;
  • Holds EU nationality and / or a valid residency / work permit for Spain.
