Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is the world’s most active cricket club, custodian of the laws of cricket and is also the owner of Lord’s Ground, affectionately known as the “Home of Cricket”.  The MCC and Lord’s brands are renowned worldwide and are synonymous with excellence, prestige and providing an enjoyable customer experience, whether at an international cricket match or for Sunday Afternoon Tea in the Long Room.

An opportunity has arisen to join MCC as the Senior Operations Manager (Ground) at Lord’s – ‘The Home of Cricket’. The holder of this position will be responsible for the development and delivery of the stewarding operation and management of up to 600 casual staff on Major Match days. They would also be responsible for the day-to-day management of MCC’s Gate Staff, and help design and deliver the security operation for the Ground, in conjunction with our Ground Superintendent and Head of Security.

The MCC Gate Staff are responsible for securing the entry points into Lord’s and are a critical element of the security operation. On Major Match days, staff working at Lord’s will look after up to 31,000 spectators when our new Compton and Edrich stands are completed in time for the 2021 season. The expectations of our visitors is understandably high when they visit such a high-profile sporting venue. The successful candidate will help recruit, train and prepare our stewards (whether employees or casual workers) for work on both match days and at other functions that take place throughout the year at Lord’s.

The Senior Operations Manager (Ground) will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the local authority, emergency services and the England & Wales Cricket Board to ensure compliance with relevant minimum standard documentation.

Ensuring that Lord’s operates in a Covid-secure manner will be a key driver for all staff working for MCC in 2021 and beyond and the holder of this position will have a key part to play in delivering key elements of our Covid-compliance strategy.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Interested candidates should have a proven track record in managing large numbers of staff, preferably within the sporting and/or event sectors.

Applicants for this position should either be in possession of, or working towards, the Level 4 diploma in Spectator Safety Management.

A strong understanding of relevant guidance documents issued by both the Sports Ground Safety Authority and government.

Experience of successfully managing a large budget.

Candidates should be able to clearly show experience in strategic and operational planning and provide evidence of exceptional report writing skills.

Any experience of delivering training programmes for staff is also considered desirable for interested candidates
