Purpose:

To manage global tax risk, compliance and reporting for City Football Group and subsidiaries.

To lead the corporate income tax reporting and audit process for City Football Group, delivering accurate tax balances, tax notes and disclosures for the financial statements.

To manage relationships with key stakeholders across the business in relation to tax matters, including but not limited to MCFC Chief Operating Officer, MCFC Director of Football, Head of Reward, Financial Controller, International Financial Controller, tax advisors, HMRC and Senior Accounting Officer.

To support and advise on future business development opportunities across the group ensuring tax efficiencies are considered in the design and construction of the corporate investing mechanism.

To ensure all compliance deadlines are met and compliance requirements are kept continuously up to date, including but not limited to corporation tax returns, transfer pricing, country by country reporting, short term business visitors, P11D and PSA reporting, VAT returns, Corporate Criminal Offences Act requirements, tax strategy, Senior Accounting Officer audit.

To manage all tax planning activities including but not limited to quarterly instalment payment forecasting and management, tax elections to manage the cash tax position of City Football Group and the use of reliefs.

To lead the relationship with HMRC in the UK, managing the annual business risk review process and all communications between City Football Group and HMRC. To manage any overseas tax audits and enquiries to ensure resolution of material issues and minimising the additional cost to City Football Group.

To drive continuous improvement in tax processes, including the education of the broader finance team and business where necessary. Regularly monitor and assess material tax risk and communicate as appropriate to the relevant key stakeholders.

Accountabilities with key outcomes:

  • To hit all deadlines for the team to remain compliant with tax requirements
  • To build relationships with key stakeholders and become a trusted advisor to them and the business
  • To plan and manage risk in a forward-thinking manner to drive best in class tax management
  • To identify key risks, design mitigating plans, recommend to management and implement the plan
  • To support the Payroll and HR departments with tax technical advice on employment issues

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Chartered Tax Advisor
  • Experience as a Tax Manager in current or previous roles
  • An ability to influence senior members of the organisation
  • An ability to articulate complex issues in a simple manner (particularly in relation to tax)
  • Experience in managing relationships with HMRC

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the key tax risks faced by the football industry
  • Previous experience working in a Premier League football club
