About the AFL

The Australian Football League (AFL) is Australia’s premier professional competition for Australian rules football. Beyond the field, the AFL strives to foster a culture of inclusion, with initiatives that welcome and celebrate diversity across gender, ability, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. Marvel Stadium, owned by the AFL, is one of the country’s most iconic multi-purpose venues, hosting AFL matches, concerts, Big Bash League (BBL) games, soccer, and other major events.

Maple Community Services and AFL Partnership

In a bid to make Australian sports the most inclusive globally, Maple Community Services has partnered with the AFL to drive accessibility improvements across its venues and initiatives. This partnership is not just about promoting inclusive sports but is also about creating long-term change in the way stadiums, events, and facilities accommodate people with disabilities. Maple’s expertise in disability services combined with the AFL’s nationwide influence creates a powerful alliance for fostering accessibility in sports venues, starting with Marvel Stadium.

About the Accessibility Audit of Marvel Stadium

The audit of Marvel Stadium is a comprehensive project that aims to enhance accessibility across all areas of the venue, making it one of the most inclusive sports venues in Australia. The audit will evaluate physical infrastructure (entrances, seating, restrooms), digital experiences (websites, social media), and ticketing systems to identify barriers and suggest improvements. As part of this effort, a diverse working group will be formed to offer insights, feedback, and guidance throughout the process.
