Kettering closes in on location deal for new stadium

English Southern League Premier Division football club Kettering Town has taken a step closer to finalising plans for a new stadium after identifying a possible location for the project.

The team has moved home a number of times in recent years and is now keen to establish a permanent base by building a new stadium.

Plans for a new 6,500-capacity facility were unveiled last summer and the club has spent the past year working with Kettering Borough Council to nail down a site for the stadium.

The club said that it has now identified a location that will “tick the boxes” for the majority of its fans, but has stopped short of revealing the site, with talks still at a “delicate stage”. However, Kettering has said that Rockingham Road is no longer an option for the club, with the team keen to return to within the Kettering boundaries.

“We can therefore confirm that the club have made a formal request to the council for commercial details to be confirmed for what we believe to be a viable site,” Kettering said in a statement on its website.

“If we can make this happen the club will move to a purpose built stadium, with on-site parking and suitable clubhouse facilities. This would not however see the end of our relationship with Latimer Park, which would continue to be used as a training base, match day facility for our academy as well as a community venue.”

Kettering currently plays at Latimer Park, its third home in just six years after a move to Nene Park in 2011 was followed by a relocation to Steel Park one year later.
