Zurich set for new ice hockey stadium

A proposed new ice hockey stadium in Zurich has been given the go-ahead by the Swiss city’s local authority.

The near 12,000-capacity venue will serve as the home arena of ZSC Lions, which plays in the top-tier National League A competition.

According to Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, ZSC Lions has been provided with a CHF120m (£96m/€110m/$124m) loan to fund the development.

The stadium is due to be ready by 2022 at the latest. It will mark a change of scenery for ZSC Lions, which has played at its current Hallenstadion home ground since 1950.
