Angels approve local development project

Plans for a new large-scale development on a site adjacent to the ballpark of the LA Angels have been approved by the Major League Baseball team and the Anaheim City Council.

The Angels had previously openly opposed the project, which includes plans for a 15-acre complex of shops, restaurants, offices, residence and a hotel on the site next to Angel Stadium.

The Angels’ attorney had said that local authorities should carry out a further study into the impact the project would have on the environment, while a club spokeswoman suggested that the Angels could launch legal action over the move.

The team had felt the plans would affect trade at Angel Stadium, with teams likely to visit the complex, and not the stadium, before and after games.

However, following discussions with developer LT Global, the team, which is in talks to develop Angel Stadium, has declared itself satisfied with the plans.

“We are pleased that LT Global worked with us in a timely and collaborative effort to address the impacts of their development on our fan experience,” Angels president John Carpino said in a statement reported by the Orange County Register newspaper.

“We look forward to working with the city to finalise details on important transportation improvements for the Platinum Triangle in the coming weeks.”

The reasons for the compromise between the Angels and LT Global have not been disclosed.
