Zagreb confirms plans for new football stadium

Zagreb

Plans have been revealed to build a new football-specific stadium in the Croatian capital of Zagreb.

The new 7,000-seat facility, which, according to the Croatiaweek.com website, will cost €8m ($8.5m/£6.8m), will be built at what is currently Saint Josip Radnik stadium, the home of Croatian club NK Sesvete.

Architect Davor Mateković has designed the stadium in the hope that it will not only be used by NK Sesvete, but also other teams in the city and the country’s national side.

Zagreb City will provide most of the financing for the stadium, which will have a capacity of 7,000, in addition to a business centre, offices and various other facilities.

Work is due to begin in spring next year, with plans to open the facility in 2018.
