Aberdeen reveals latest stadium plans

Scottish Premiership football club Aberdeen has released renderings of its proposed new stadium complex.

The complex would be built on land at the Kingsford site in Aberdeen and would feature a new community and sports campus, as well as an academy and a 20,000-capacity stadium.

The club has released the latest details and images following consultation with stakeholders ahead of the submission of a planning application for the project.

In a statement, Aberdeen said the development of a 21st century stadium, modern training facilities and a dedicated space for the AFC Community Trust is vital for the club “to achieve a sustainable future and to maximise its contribution to the city and region on and off the pitch.”

If given the green light, the 25-hectare Kingsford site would include a host of community-focused facilities alongside the stadium and training pitches.

Aberdeen, which has played at its current home, Pittodrie, for over a century, said the new stadium would dramatically improve the atmosphere and match-day experience whilst having a minimal visual impact on the surrounding area.

“Our vision for the future is one which can be shared among our fans, the team and backroom staff, our partners and sponsors and among the wider community in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire,” the club’s executive vice-chairman, George Yule, said.

“Realising our plans for Kingsford is the critical step in our exciting journey to achieve Uefa top 100 status with a highly successful squad, a wider than ever reach into the community, world-class training facilities and a modern stadium, all within a prosperous and healthy region.”

Yule added: “For the first time, we will be able to bring together our off-the-pitch and on-the-pitch operations, including our training facilities, allowing us to deliver a real step-change in experience for our players and our fans, as well as for the wider community. This will also support a step-change for the club in terms of operational and business performance.”

Aberdeen is staging a public exhibition of its up-to-date proposals at Pittodrie today (Thursday) from 3pm-9pm.
