The Washington Redskins became the latest NFL American football team to be affected by glare at the AT&T Stadium as they lost at the Dallas Cowboys’ home arena.
The Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins 31-26 on Thanksgiving yesterday (Thursday), with visiting players clearly impacted by the sun’s glare during the first half of the game, with several team members shielding their eyes from the sunlight.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins was visibly struggling with glare throughout the first quarter, as was kicker Dustin Hopkins, who missed two of his first three field goal attempts.
Hopkins said: "It definitely wasn't an issue on the first one because I wasn't looking into the sun. But as far as the long 55-yard attempt, it was in my eyes.”
Several Redskins fans took to social media to complain about the effects of sunlight on their players. One tweeted: “Why did NFL let them build that stadium going east and west? Sun in Cousins’ eyes. Terrible.”
AT&T Stadium, which opened in 2009, allows sunlight to stream through glass panels, which offers more natural light inside the venue.
It is not the first time that the sunlight has caused issues at the stadium, with Cowboys players having to endure the glare during the team’s opening match of the season.
