Etihad Stadium tunnel to be relocated during redevelopment work

The players’ tunnel at the Etihad Stadium, the home of English Premier League football club Manchester City, is to be temporarily relocated to make way for construction work.

Starting with the game against Burnley on January 2, the service tunnel, which is located to the north of the current tunnel, will be used by City and the opposition. This will be in place until the end of the season.

The club said the construction work is being carried out with the aim of enhancing its facilities to provide players with the best possible match preparation and recovery.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that Manchester City would be installing a new glass tunnel feature at the Etihad.

The tunnel is set to be fitted in time for the start of the 2017-18 season and will allow supporters to view players walking to and from the dressing rooms from a new luxury executive lounge.

The club has yet to confirm details of the plans, although it did say that ‘The Tunnel Club’ would be “one of the most innovative and immersive experiences in global sports hospitality”.
