The Westpac Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand, is to undertake a major upgrade of its Wi-Fi network next year as part of an effort to help improve the experience of visitors to the venue.
Supporters will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi throughout the stadium and use specialised mobile applications to order food and drink via their phone, as well as view instant replays of on-field action. A total of 200 Wi-Fi access points will be placed around the stadium as part of the project.
The high-density Wi-Fi network is due to be up and running by April or May, but the dedicated apps will not be ready until later in the year. A planned upgrade of the concourse at the stadium has been postponed until later in the summer.
According to the Stuff.co.nz website, Shane Harmon, chief executive of the venue, said: “We have a full calendar of events for the first six months, and did not want people arriving to a building site.”
