Chinese Super League club to begin work on Populous-designed training base

Chinese Super League football team Hebei China Fortune Club has revealed details of a new training centre that has been designed by leading architecture firm Populous.

The base is said to be the first in China to cater for all aspects of a club – the first team, reserves and youth academy. Construction will begin in April and finish by mid-2018.

The facility will be located in the Gu’an County of Hebei Province, approximately 50km south of Beijing. The base will include 12 Fifa-standard football pitches, a training hub, medical centre, hotel and apartment, gym and support facilities.

“This facility has been benchmarked against the world’s best training centres, with a focus on the European football model,” Andrew James, Populous’ senior principal leading the design team, said.

“CFFC spent 12 months visiting some 20 football training centres in Europe and provided us with an extensive design brief of their requirements. Our task was to assimilate all their technical requirements into a design that was functional, efficient and aesthetically pleasing. We have set out to create an environment where the footballers love coming to work, to train, to socialise, to enjoy themselves.”

Populous has designed a host of football facilities around the world, including Wembley Stadium, Fifa World Cup stadia in Brazil and South Africa, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and the under-construction new home of Tottenham Hotspur.
