StairMedia eyes growth after FA Cup showcase

Spanish technology company StairMedia is targeting further expansion in the UK market after debuting its new LED advertising system during the FA Cup semi-finals held at Wembley Stadium at the weekend.

The steps of the Wembley stadium bowl were brought to life during the two football games through StairMedia’s patented high-resolution LED product that enables the creation of dynamic and animated visual content.

The system will again be in use for the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea on August 1, with the weekend marking its debut at a live outdoor event with global coverage.

StairMedia first premiered during the final of Spanish basketball’s Copa del Rey in February, before being used again at the Liga Endesa playoffs last month. The Barcelona-based company has since teamed up with specialised LED consultancy OMM Technology to help launch the product in the UK market.

“Static media on steps opposite the (TV) camera is a growing means of communication,” said StairMedia CEO Francisco Ortiz. “The introduction of an LED product directly opposite the main camera adds a significant value to any stadium rights.”

Spanish sports business website Palco23 said StairMedia has pre-agreements in place with a number of British sports clubs to implement its technology in 2020-21.
