Benfica engages 3D Digital Venue to transform sales process

The COVID-19 pandemic has catalysed all sectors to bet on technology.

As a historic club and pioneer in Europe, SL Benfica has not been left behind but has decided to upgrade its purchasing process for both single-ticket and business customers. To do so, the club partnered with 3D Digital Venue (3DDV), which has virtualised the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in every detail.

The stadium has been the scene of some of the most relevant events of the last decade for European football, such as the final of the Champions League in 2014 and 2020, and five matches at Euro 2004, including the final. These events have placed it as one of the reference stadiums in Europe, with a capacity for nearly 65,000 spectators and a design and majesty that leaves everyone who visits it speechless.

So how has Portugal’s largest stadium revolutionised its online sales process? Through 3D technology, which has allowed the creation of a 3D model identical to the stadium, and which is embedded in the purchase process. As a result, each of the fans attending the stadium can see the view they will have in 360 degrees including all the details such as covers, types of seats, railings, etc. When buying a ticket, fans can navigate through the different sections of the stadium and find the seat they like best.

Having a 3D model of the stadium is especially useful when showing the VIP spaces. 3DDV is the only European company that integrates this product in the purchase process so that all the products offered by the club are available under the same platform. The Estádio da Luz has a very large offer of VIP packages that range from different types of suites to lounges, all of them with their seat and with a design and views that make them unique.

This technology and the great professional relationship between the club and 3DDV allowed the virtualisation of the two lounges, Marquês and Hublot, and the five rooms (Berna, Amsterdam, Presidential, Latina and Campeões Europeus). Each one of these rooms has unique furniture, look and feel and all the details have been recreated exactly so that customers can get as close as possible to the product before buying it. The purchase process is as follows: The customer filters which of all these products they want to visualise, and the system displays it on the map where they can choose between different seats. Once chosen, the user can see the 360-degree view of the stadium and access the selected VIP room. The system allows them to navigate through it simply and intuitively.

Furthermore, customers can choose between another VIP offer, the camarotes. These are rooms with their own private seats, offering more privacy and making them perfect for business-related purposes. From inside the camarote you can see the view that you will have of the pitch, as well as from every one of the seats included. This technology is also exclusive to 3DDV in Europe.

Thanks to this partnership, now Benfica’s fans can explore their stadium differently, getting to know all the products from the same platform. This technology is designed to improve the purchasing experience, help users choose the option that best fits their needs, and a greater digital engagement with future attendees. Also, showing this large offer visually and intuitively helps buyers who are not familiar with the stadium, giving them extra confidence when buying their tickets to enjoy one of the best stadiums in Europe. 3DDV is a technology solutions company that creates 2D and 3D images of stadiums, arenas and other types of live event spaces, offering ticket buyers the opportunity to view the venue, and their view of the performance area, during and after the ticket buying process.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, the company’s technology currently integrates with over 35 different ticketing platforms in 20 countries, virtualising some of the most iconic venues in the world. 3DDV has been successfully building best in class 360-degree 2D and 3D interactive solutions that excel in delivering greater fan satisfaction, increasing season ticket holder renewal rates and providing special viewing for prospective VIP buyers.
