ASM Global has struck a renewal with Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation for the management of NRG Park in Houston, Texas.
The multi-year extension will begin in 2025, with ASM Global having operated the county-owned site since 2000. NRG Park is home to four venues, including NRG Stadium, where the Houston Texans NFL American football franchise has played since 2002.
The stadium also hosted this year’s edition of March Madness, the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s flagship annual men’s basketball tournament. Additionally, the College Football Playoffs Championship Game is slated for this coming January, and NRG Park will welcome Fifa World Cup matches in 2026.
“This agreement demonstrates that ASM Global is aligned with our belief about the tremendous future for NRG Park,” said Ryan Walsh, CEO and executive director of Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation.
“Much of our success throughout the years is because we have positioned ourselves with high-impact, respected partners like ASM Global. NRG Park is proud to be one of the crown jewels in an unparalleled international portfolio that includes some of the most prestigious, iconic and successful venues.”
ASM Global president and CEO Ron Bension added: “We’re very appreciative of this vote of confidence. We passionately believe in Houston and the area’s track record of hosting spectacular events like the Super Bowl, NCAA Men’s Final Four and partnering with amazing organisations such as the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo; the NFL’s Houston Texans franchise; and, of course, the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation.”
In other news, ASM Global has been appointed to operate the new Henrico Sports & Events Center, which is scheduled to open just outside Richmond in Virginia next month. The facility will host basketball and volleyball events.
The deal to operate the venue will run for an initial five years, with the option of extending the partnership for a further five years.
