Oktagon MMA heads to Newcastle as part of UK expansion

Mixed martial arts promotion Oktagon MMA has announced plans to stage four UK shows in 2024, with Newcastle’s Utilita Arena to be one of the host venues.

Newcastle will host Oktagon 52 on January 27. Oktagon has also announced a Birmingham show, with the date to be announced early next year.

Details of the other UK events that will be held next year will be announced in due course. Oktagon staged its first UK event at Manchester’s AO Arena on Saturday.

Pavol Neruda, co-founder of Oktagon MMA, said: “We are so pleased to be bringing Oktagon MMA to the UK. This is testament to the incredible work of the whole Oktagon MMA family, from our staff to our amazing fighters, and we know that we will offer UK fans something different from what they are used to.

“Newcastle is a beautiful city and the Utilita is a fantastic venue. We want to grow the sport in the North of England, and we cannot wait to bring Oktagon MMA to the Geordies. Newcastle will be the first of four Oktagon MMA shows in the UK in 2024. The timeline will be announced in due course, but we can confirm that Birmingham will follow Newcastle.”

Oktagon MMA is Europe’s leading mixed martial arts promotion. Upcoming events are scheduled to take place at Lanxess Arena in the German city of Cologne, as well as Ostravar Aréna and O2 Arena in the Czech cities of Ostrava and Prague, respectively.

So far this year, the promotion has held events in various cities across Slovakia, Germany and Czech Republic

Tickets for the Newcastle event will go on sale on November 20.
