Basketball’s East Asia Super League will stage a game in Macau’s Studio City as part of a sponsorship deal with Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
The 5,000-seat Studio City Event Center will host ‘Melco Style Presents: Clash of the Champions’ on December 13. The game will be contested by Meralco Bolts of the Philippines Basketball Association and Japan B.League team Ryukyu Golden Kings.
The event will be fully supported by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government as part of plans to provide more diversified sports and leisure experiences for tourists visiting the region.
It is hoped the event will also promote the development of “synergistic integration” of the tourism and leisure industry with the sports industry.
Matt Beyer, chief executive of the EASL, said: “EASL is excited to be working with Melco Resorts & Entertainment to bring elite East Asian basketball back to the vibrant city of Macau. We look forward to showing audiences the amazing venue at Studio City and the world-class skills and sportsmanship of these teams.”
Kevin Benning, senior vice-president and property general manager of Studio City, added: “Melco is committed to delivering diversified world-class entertainment options to our guests. We are thrilled to be working with EASL to entertain sports fans with premier Asian basketball at Studio City as we strive to help enhance the competitiveness of Macau’s tourism industry through ‘tourism + sports’ integration.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale on November 17 via the Studio City website. Melco Style members will receive a 20% discount.
The 2023-24 EASL season commenced on October 11. The season features 24 home and away group stage games and runs until February, with the Final Four to take place in March.
