Polish Ekstraklasa football club Radomiak Radom has announced that construction work on two new stands at its home stadium will begin next month.
Work on the Stadion im Braci Czachorów first started in 2016. The stadium opened last summer, albeit with only two stands in use.
In May, construction of the two remaining stands will begin and the project is expected to take 21 months to complete. Radom confirmed that Betonox Construction has been awarded the contract to build the stands after submitting an offer of PLN39.59m (£7.9m/€9.2m/$9.8m).
Over 5,600 new seats will be fitted across the two stands. The project will bring the total capacity of the stadium to around 15,000 and it is hoped the work will be finished by 2026.
Club president Radosław Witkowski said: “I hope that Betonox will use the experiences from the construction of the first stage when building the eastern and western stands. The most important thing for us is that the construction will take place without the need to interrupt the organisation of Ekstraklasa football matches.
“Of course, we are also aware that there is still a third element left, i.e. the construction of the stadium’s façade. We will do everything to announce a tender for these works this year.”
The stadium project has been beset by problems since work began in 2016, with the initial contractor having its agreement terminated.
