Rio 2016 round-up: August 11

Each day we take a look at the main stadia and ticketing news from the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Rio 2016 organising committee appealed a court ruling that states spectators should be allowed to carry out peaceful political protests in venues during the Games. A number of people were ejected from venues for displaying anti-government messages before the ruling was passed earlier this week.

A police investigation found that rocks, and not gunshots, were what caused the windows of a bus carrying members of the media to cave in on Tuesday night. Only minor injuries were suffered during the attack, which was carried out just after the bus left the Deodoro venue.

Police discovered a second stray bullet at the equestrian centre on Wednesday. It came after a bullet ripped through the roof of the venue, which is located close to a military base, on Saturday.

The Rio 2016 organising committee confirmed that the diving pools at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre have turned green due to a spread of algae. The problem is said to not be a threat to athletes.

A fleet of food trucks was called in to provide refreshments for fans at the Olympic Tennis Centre. Some spectators have expressed concerns over the lack of food and drink available at venues during the opening few days of the Games.

Pat Hickey, chief executive of the Olympic Council of Ireland, has been told to clarify the body’s stance on the ticketing scandal that led to an Irish businessman being arrested for allegedly selling OCI-designated tickets at inflated prices.
