Pakistan’s Arbab Niaz Stadium set for makeover

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regional government in Pakistan has granted approval to a renovation project at the province’s Arbab Niaz Stadium cricket ground.

Citing sources close to the work, the Daily Times newspaper reports that Rs700m (€6.3m/$6.7m/£5.3m) has been allocated to upgrade the facility, which currently has a seating capacity of 20,000.

The project will include the installation of an e-ticketing system, screens, CCTV cameras and an electronic score board, in addition to a helipad, media enclosure and fitness suites.

The newspaper added that floodlights will also be placed at the stadium to allow it to host both day and night matches.

The ground has hosted 17 one-day internationals and seven Test matches, most recently in 2003.

The Pakistani national team has played just three international matches within the country itself since 2009 due to security concerns, instead hosting ‘home’ matches in the United Arab Emirates.
