NFL’s Ravens given approval for stadium upgrade project

NFL American football team the Baltimore Ravens has been given permission to push ahead with an upgrade project at its M&T Bank Stadium.

According to DelmarvaNow, the Board of Public Works voted unanimously to allow the Maryland Stadium Authority to accept $120m (€112.4m/£95.7m) from the franchise to upgrade certain areas of the venue. The Stadium Authority has also been given the green light to commit $24m to the project.

Planned improvements include the installation of escalators and elevators at the top level of the stadium.

Michael Frenz, executive director of the Stadium Authority, said the upgrades will not only enhance the experience of Ravens fans on game days, but also people who attend other sports and entertainment events at the stadium.

However, Ravens president Dick Cass has warned that the upgrades could lead to an increase in ticket prices for home matches at the stadium. Cass said: “We’re seriously considering a price increase; but we won’t announce what we’re going to do until probably the end of January or early February.”
