The Vegas Golden Knights NHL ice hockey franchise has unveiled plans to build a new 6,000-seat arena for its American Hockey League affiliate team in Henderson, Nevada.
The Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate will play its home games at the new facility, although it will practice and be headquartered at the NHL team’s Lifeguard Arena complex on Water Street. The Golden Knights said in a statement that they will work closely with city officials on the plans.
The franchise purchased an AHL team on February 6 from Spurs Sports & Entertainment, which currently operates the San Antonio Rampage. Under the terms of the agreement, which is subject to approval from the AHL board of governors, the Rampage would relocate to Henderson/Las Vegas.
The Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate will play its home games during the 2020-21 season at Orleans Arena, which is located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The official name for the AHL team has not yet been confirmed, but Golden Knights owner Bill Foley said it would include ‘Henderson’ and that ‘Silver Knights’ was also being considered. A timeline for the new arena, which would also be capable of hosting other events, is yet to be outlined.
The Golden Knights have played at the multi-purpose T-Mobile Arena since entering the NHL in in the 2017-18 season.
