English National League football club Scunthorpe United has launched a new Lifetime 1899 Membership scheme, which will give fans the chance to hold a share in its Glanford Park stadium.

The membership is a one-off lifetime package limited to 1899 members and will be available to purchase directly from the club. Each member will be allocated one share in the company which owns the stadium.

Only 1,899 shares will be issued in the company, with memberships to be purchased via a one-off payment of £1,899 (€2,155/$2,288) with no annual fee or subscription. 1899 is a reference to the year in which Scunthorpe was formed.

From next season, all members of the new scheme will have reserved access to Club 1899, which includes a designated seating area within the Mortz Stand at Glanford Park. Each membership also features 20% off club sponsorship and advertising for business members, 15% off club shop purchases and hospitality bookings, and a free season ticket for the 2023-24 season (personal members only).

Other perks will include free entry to all pre-season home fixtures, priority tickets for cup matches, inclusion in a free monthly prize draw, subscription to the Club 1899 digital quarterly magazine, as well as the option to buy a share in SUFC (1899) Ltd, which owns the stadium, for £1.

Members who buy a share in the company will receive a framed certificate confirming they are one of 1,899 owners of Glanford Park. The one-off payment of £1,899 can be made, or fans can spread the cost with a £388.90 deposit and a £170 monthly payment over 10 months.

Scunthorpe was relegated from League Two last season and is currently 23rd in the National League. Last month, David Hilton completed his takeover of the club, replacing former owner Peter Swann as chairman.

The club said yesterday (Wednesday) that it had received over 450 enquiries for the membership scheme in less than 24 hours. An application form has been published on the club’s website for fans interested in becoming members.
