Sethi proposes name change for Pakistan cricket ground, hockey stadium renamed

The Pakistan Hockey Federation has confirmed that the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium has been renamed the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium in memory of philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who passed away last week.

The PHF announced the news following the death of Edhi on July 8.

Meanwhile it has also been proposed that the 60,000-capacity Gaddafi Stadium cricket ground in Lahore – one of the country’s most iconic cricket grounds – be renamed in Edhi’s honour.

Najam Sethi, chairman of the Pakistan Super League Twenty20 competition, tweeted the suggestion of the new Edhi Stadium on Sunday.

“I propose to change the name of Lahore’s Gadafi (sic) Stadium to Edhi Stadium,” read Sethi's tweet. “PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) BoG (Board of Governance) members may kindly approve my request.”
