AmpThink’s latest Wi-Fi technology fitted at Bank of America Stadium

Wi-Fi network operator AmpThink has fitted Bank of America Stadium, home of NFL American football franchise the Carolina Panthers, with its latest state-of-the-art technology.

Spectators will be able to sample AmpThink’s network during the International Champions Cup (ICC) pre-season soccer match between German Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich and Italian Serie A team Inter Milan on July 30.

AmpThink collaborated with architects and stadium personnel to install the network, which will facilitate fan engagement opportunities through strategically placed access points across the stadium.

“At Bank of America Stadium we are placing 65% of the access points under-seat as this was the best way to get Wi-Fi access closest to the fans in this particular venue,” AmpThink president Bill Anderson said in a statement.

In total, 900 custom enclosures have been fitted under seats and on the concourse area at Bank of America Stadium, which has a capacity of around 75,000. The enclosures are built to withstand heavy footfall and blend in with the stadium’s design.

James Hammond, director of information technology at the Panthers, added: “AmpThink has an impressive track record of success in venues across North America, and its approach to network design, construction, management and monetisation is unique, and something no other potential partner could offer.”

AmpThink said the ICC game would serve as a “soft launch” for the network before the NFL season begins in September.
