Liverpool Mayor drops Everton stadium hint

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has hinted that the site for Premier League football club Everton’s new home stadium will be located at the city’s Bramley Moore Dock area.

Anderson revealed on Twitter yesterday that Everton’s proposed move to a new ground is “closer now than it was last month and closer now than it’s ever been”.

In a later tweet, Everton fan Anderson said: “The Moore the merrier for me.” Many supporters took the tweet as a hint that the aforementioned dock is the preferred site for the new ground.

Liverpool’s North Docks area is one of two brownfield sites said to be under consideration, along with another at Stonebridge Cross in Croxteth.

Anderson last month said a new stadium could be achievable within two years. In May, plans to build a new ground at the Walton Hall Park site in Liverpool were abandoned after Everton deemed the project to be too expensive.

Everton has played at Goodison Park since the club was formed in 1892 and a move to a new ground has been mooted for some time.
