Stadio della Roma moves on to next stage of review process

The Lazio Regione will be the next administrative body to assess Italian Serie A football club Roma’s new stadium as the review process nears its conclusion.

The Stadio della Roma project has moved from Roma Capitale to Lazio Regione, with the 52,500-capacity ground now close to being given the green light.

Stadio della Roma will serve as the centrepiece of a wide-ranging development project that also includes a new training facility, entertainment areas, bars and restaurants.

Roma president Jim Pallotta was encouraged by the latest development. “We are very satisfied with the project’s progression,” he said. “It is another step towards the realisation of one of the most important works in Italy.

“We are convinced that the Stadio della Roma-Tor di Valle project can contribute to the development and revitalisation of the capital, in addition to giving to the city a new stadium that Giallorossi fans can be proud of.”

Earlier this month it was announced that the AEG Facilities subsidiary of sport and entertainment company AEG would oversee the development of the ground. AEG Facilities’ recently-launched global solutions division will be involved in the venue’s final design and construction process, with AEG Facilities itself to provide a range of services including event programming, purchasing and staff training once the venue is open.

Construction work is scheduled to begin next year, with Roma hoping to move into the ground in time for the 2019-20 Serie A season.
