Roma owner hails positive stadium talks

AS Roma owner James Pallotta is confident the Italian Serie A football club will be able to move into its new stadium in time for the start of the 2019-20 season after holding positive talks with Nicola Zingaretti, the president of the Lazio Regione administrative body.

A review of the 52,500-capacity Stadio della Roma, which will serve as the centrepiece of a wide-ranging development, was completed by the Roma Capitale governing body last month. Lazio Regione is the next body to review the project and early talks have been positive.

“It was a good meeting,” Pallotta said, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport. “We are convinced that both Rome and the country will serve a new stadium like this. We have to work incredibly professionally to comply with a very precise timetable.

“We hope that in 2019 we will sit together for the inauguration. We are very confident.”

Lazio Regione president Nicola Zingaretti said Stadio della Roma was a “great development project”.

Earlier in the week, local councillor Michele Civita said that construction work is on track to begin on March 6.
