WWK Arena, the home ground of German Bundesliga football club FC Augsburg, is to undergo a revamp.
The club’s main sponsor and stadium naming-rights partner, financial services company WWK Insurance, will fund the project, which will result in the ground’s exterior being fitted with an impressive new light structure.
Scores of individual aluminum rods will be arranged to create the structure, which Augsburg said would act as a “shining outer shell”. Light-emitting rods will be added and will glow green, red and white – the team’s colours.
“The WWK Arena is already a top football stadium with a unique atmosphere,” Jürgen Schrameier, chief executive of WWK Insurance, said. “The new outer shell will present the stadium in a visually unique and extremely modern guise. I am particularly pleased for Augsburg, because it has cherished an appealing exterior façade for the stadium since it was constructed.”
Construction work is scheduled to begin in November and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2017.
