Citigroup to assist Hillsborough County on new stadium for MLB’s Rays

Hillsborough County in the US state of Florida has selected financial services company Citigroup as its bond underwriter as the county seeks to build a new stadium for Major League Baseball team the Tampa Bay Rays.

The team currently plays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, which is located in the Pinellas County of Florida. It has a contract to play at the ground until 2027.

Hillsborough County is keen on the team playing in its ‘home’ county and has called on the services of Citigroup to assess the financial implications of building a new facility. “They will assist us in crafting a plan that is in the best interest of Hillsborough County,” County Commissioner Ken Hagan said, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal newspaper.

“I spoke with Rob Manfred, the commissioner of baseball, and am convinced he wants the Rays to remain in Tampa Bay.”
