Luukko to head Arena Alliance group

Peter Luukko, the executive chairman of the Florida Panthers NHL ice hockey team, has been named as the co-chairman of Arena Alliance trade group.

The Arena Alliance was founded last week to serve a select group of leading facilities with access to scale and resources through sponsorship optimisation, untapped revenue streams, insights and access to premier sports and live entertainment content.

The organisation was formed by the Oak View Group (OVG), with an initial 22 charter members from across North America. Members include New York’s Madison Square Garden, the Chase Center in San Francisco, Atlanta’s Philips Arena, and the BB&T Center, home to the Panthers.

Prior to joining the Panthers last year Luukko was president and chief operations officer for Comcast-Spectator, where he oversaw operations of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey and 76ers basketball teams.

Luukko will head up operations of the Alliance with the goal of driving revenue, sponsorships and live event content to member arenas.

“Peter is a great friend and a titan in our business who’s led the success of many of the world’s most iconic arenas’ sports teams,” said OVG chief executive Tim Leiweke, the former president of AEG. “It’s an honour to have him on board as a partner and there’s no one better suited to bring the vision of the Alliance to life.”
