Local authority awaits stadium payment from FC Goa

Indian Super League football team FC Goa yesterday (Sunday) still owed the owner of its stadium Rs18.7m (£219,000/$250,000/€250,000) for the right to play at the ground.

The Sports Authority of Goa owns Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium and rents the facility to FC Goa. As of yesterday, the body was yet to receive its latest payment.

“According to the rules, the Nehru Stadium will be officially handed over after the payment of fees,” a senior SAG official said, according to the Navhind Times newspaper.

The issue is set to be resolved in due course, however, with the stadium manager having stated that the facility would be handed over to FC Goa following the conclusion of the final of the AFC U-16 Championship national team tournament. The game took place at Nehru Stadium yesterday, with Iraq defeating Iran on penalties to claim the title.

FC Goa sold out all its home games during the 2015 ISL season. It begins the 2016 campaign with an away match at NorthEast United tomorrow.
