Everton owner scopes out new stadium sites

Farhad Moshiri, Everton’s majority shareholder, is visiting two potential new stadium sites today (Friday) for the English Premier League football club.

Moshiri is visiting Bramley Moore dock, the club’s preferred option, as well as Stonebridge Cross in Croxteth.

Moshiri, a British-Iranian billionaire, and club chairman Bill Kenwright have been in talks with Peel Holdings, the owner of the dockland site, as well as Liverpool City Council. Peel Holdings is asking for £30m (€33m/$37m) for the site, according to the Guardian newspaper.

Peel Holdings received planning permission for a £5.5bn redevelopment project for the dock in 2012, not including a stadium, but construction work has yet to start.

Whereas the dock would require significant enabling works to take place before it could be considered suitable for a stadium, the Stonebridge Cross site is ready for construction work.

It has previously been reported that concrete plans about Everton’s future stadium could be made before the end of this year.

Everton currently plays at Goodison Park, which has a capacity of just under 40,000.
