Renderings released for proposed St Louis MLS stadium

New renderings of a potential Major League Soccer stadium for the US city of St Louis were released yesterday (Tuesday) by the Foundry St Louis organisation.

Foundry St Louis is one of two groups working to take MLS to St Louis, alongside MLS2STL. The two groups currently have different plans for where a stadium would be located.

Foundry St Louis’ stadium would be located on land near Chouteau and Grand. The group held an open discussion yesterday with local fans, a number of whom pledged their support for the project.

It is thought that a soccer-specific, 20,000-capacity stadium would cost about $100m (£81m/€91m).

The two groups are aiming for St Louis to have an MLS franchise by 2020, by which point the league will comprise 24 teams. Twenty teams currently compete in MLS, with Atlanta United and Minnesota United set to enter the fold in 2017, followed by Los Angeles FC in 2018. League officials have confirmed that MLS will eventually comprise 28 teams.
