LLDC to ask West Ham to contribute towards policing costs

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) wants West Ham United to help pay for an increased police presence at the English Premier League club’s London Stadium.

Under the original agreement that allowed West Ham to become the anchor tenant of the former London 2012 Olympic Stadium, the LLDC was supposed to cover all policing and stewarding costs, according to the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.

However, the report said that the LLDC will ask West Ham to contribute towards the cost of policing the stadium on match days. There have been several incidents of crowd trouble at the venue since the start of the season and there is a need to increase the police presence, the newspaper added.

West Ham pays a peppercorn rent of £2.5m (€2.9m/$3.1m) per season to play at the stadium under its deal with the LLDC.

Last week, David Edmonds has resigned as the chairman of the LLDC.
