Japanese conglomerate Toshiba has moved to strengthen its partnership with sports and live entertainment firm AEG by extending their relationship across North America and Europe.

The enhanced agreement will cover AEG assets and venues such as the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Munich, The O2 in London and L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

Toshiba will support a $5m (€4.7m/£4m) renovation of LED digital screens at L.A. LIVE, as well as the introduction of a new state-of-the art interactive zone at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The new facility will feature technology such as video walls and touch displays.

In addition, Toshiba will serve as the official digital display and POS technology provider across Mercedes-Benz Arena, Mercedes Platz, The O2 and L.A. LIVE, with the firm’s solution-based technology being used to streamline concession and merchandise sales across participating venues.

Toshiba will also fit almost 315 screens and more than 130 POS systems at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. The new Mercedes Platz will also feature over 650 square metres of outside digital signage spread across 20 screens, while The O2 will benefit from upgraded digital screens and POS systems.

“Toshiba is a world-class brand and partner and we are looking forward to expanding our relationship with them by extending our success into the European market,” AEG Global Partnerships vice-president Jon Werbeck said.

“Toshiba's leading edge point-of-sale and digital signage technology enhances our ability to develop creative, interactive experiences that let us tailor a customised fan-first approach for live events.”

Bill Melo, chief marketing executive of Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions and Toshiba America Business Solutions, added: “We are delighted to expand our alliance with AEG with new technology in new geographies. Toshiba is proud to be one of the premier brands to partner with AEG, and we look forward to elevating the fan experience at every event in these AEG venues.”
