Boingo, SOLiD to support Utah Jazz arena renovation

NBA basketball franchise Utah Jazz has signed up Wi-Fi and DAS provider Boingo and public-safety wireless company SOLiD to support a renovation project at its Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The two companies have been working together to improve connectivity at the venue, which has a capacity of 19,911, by installing two DFS solutions, with one focusing on boosting cellular coverage for fans and the other for public safety.

According to the Sporttecchie.com website, Shane Hague, who serves as director of business development at SOLiD, said the project will help bring the arena in line with other venues, in terms of modern comforts for visitors.

“Working with Boingo, we deployed commercial public-safety DAS equipment that is part of the arena’s emergency preparedness strategy and allows first responders to effectively communicate with one another during an incident,” Hague said. “We are seeing this trend among large venues, where networks are optimised with coverage specifically dedicated to public-safety communications.”

Doug Lodder, senior vice-president business development at Boingo Wireless, added: “We are always evaluating and testing the systems to see if they can be improved. Fan behaviour is a process that changes often and we always want to be prepared to be able to handle these evolving needs.”
