Re-elected president of Austrian FA targets new national stadium

Leo Windtner, the re-elected president of the Austrian Football Association, has called for a new national stadium to be built in the country.

The Ernst Happel Stadium (pictured) in Vienna has served as the Austrian national stadium for 86 years and, according to the Associated Press news agency, Windtner said: “Austria as a football nation needs a new national stadium.”

The 66-year-old said the stadium project will be one of his main aims during the coming four-year term.

Windtner has led the national governing body since 2009 and was yesterday (Sunday) re-elected as president after securing 12 of the board’s 13 votes.
