‘Mega pub’ to open next to Optus Stadium

A pub that has been dubbed one of the biggest in Australia is set to open tomorrow (Friday) next to the 60,000-seat Optus Stadium in Perth.

The Camfield – named after Henry Camfield, the pioneer settler of the Burswood area of Perth where Optus Stadium is based – spans more than 9,000 square metres and features six giant bars.

The pub is owned by The Three Pound Group and has been built on the back nine of the old Burswood golf course.

General manager Tim McLernon told the PerthNow news website: “It’s one of the biggest pubs in Australia. I’m sure game days will be packed but we are more focused on the other 320-odd days where we have tried to create a venue that will attract people here regardless of whether there is an event on.”

He added: “We are not just a beer drinking barn. We wanted to make areas where families can come and there is plenty of room for the kids to muck around at the back.”

The first major event for The Camfield will be the two Ed Sheeran concerts at Optus Stadium on March 2-3. The pub will give away 100 pizzas to its first 100 visitors tomorrow.

Optus Stadium opened last month and will host a range of sports, including cricket, Aussie rules and rugby league, along with high-profile concerts.
